Optical Properties
Nonlinear optical (NLO) materials capable of generating coherent light on demand are used in numerous applications. Despite the technological importance of this class of materials, for only a small fraction of all known inorganic crystalline compounds which display second harmonic generation (SHG) responses been characterized experimentally or computationally. To address this deficiency, we conduct the NOEMD Project (https://www.noemd.net) aiming to accelerate the discovery of new NLO materials by materials genome approaches. Accordingly, the largest database of calculated second harmonic generation coefficient and other properties for (un)known inorganic compounds is presented. The database currently contains second harmonic generation coefficient information for 4000+ inorganic compounds, and this number is growing steadily.
